MetroSquash

MetroSquash is an out-of-school time program that has a long-term, holistic, proven model of impact serving Chicago Public School students with demonstrated need. Operating on the South side of Chicago in Woodlawn and in Evanston, students enter the program as early as 5th grade and receive support through post-secondary completion. By taking a long-term approach to support, we feel that we are well positioned to empower students to be able to access transformative educational opportunities.

MetroSquash operates seven days a week during the school year and offers a robust summer camp. The program is comprised of four essential youth-development pillars: squash & fitness (physical), academics & enrichment (academic), social work & supportive services (emotional), and college & careers (professional). Each pillar follows the research-validated assessment tool from the Center for Youth Program Quality to ensure best practices when working with youth.

MetroSquash launched in 2005 serving just ten fifth grade students and utilizing University of Chicago squash courts and nearby classroom space. Today, MetroSquash serves over 400 students across 12 grade levels at two locations. We are proud to have a permanent home at the corner of 61st and Cottage Grove which was built thanks to the generous support from the Chicago’s squash and civic community in 2015. The Hussain MetroSquash Center is Chicago’s largest squash facility and features 7 singles squash courts, 1 doubles squash court, 4 classrooms, office space, and a social work office. In the coming years, we excited to expand our reach to serve many more Chicagoland students and their families.

Our goal is to empower students to become healthy adults with social and economic stability. To date, MetroSquash has demonstrated a 100% high school graduation rate, 100% college acceptance rate, 98% college enrollment rate, 100% post-secondary matriculation rate, 88% college persistence rate, and 80% of our alumni have secured full-time employment.
