Reading Power

Founded in 2003, Reading Power is a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating children’s literacy learning while fostering a lifelong love for reading and writing. The organization envisions a world where every child has the literacy skills needed to succeed in school and beyond. To help make that vision a reality, Reading Power partners with schools where needs exceed resources, providing individualized, high-dosage, one-to-one tutoring in person during the school day for children in preschool through second grade.

Led by reading professionals and powered by more than 550 highly trained volunteer tutors, Reading Power’s innovative model combines research-based, data-driven curriculum with personalized instruction tailored to each student’s needs. Kindergarten through second grade students receive one-to-one tutoring three to four times per week in a dedicated Reading Power classroom, while preschool students receive individualized tutoring that develops oral language skills and fosters a love of books. Continuous assessment guides every lesson, ensuring each child receives the support needed to grow and succeed. Since its founding, Reading Power has helped more than 7,285 children strengthen their reading, writing, and speaking skills, build confidence, and discover the opportunities that literacy makes possible. As Reading Power continues to grow, its commitment remains the same: to help more children unlock their potential, build brighter futures, and become confident readers for years to come.
