The Kitchen Community
The Kitchen Community connects kids to nutritious food by creating Learning Gardens in schools and community organizations across America. Learning Gardens help redefine student connection to food by providing an opportunity to plant, care, harvest, and prepare food in an engaging academic setting. They are designed to be catalysts for community-wide behavioral improvements in childhood nutrition, socialization, and student achievement in undeserved neighborhoods across the country.
The Kitchen Community, working closely with Mayor Emanuel, Chicago Public Schools, and private donors, created 16 Learning Gardens in Chicago in 2012. By the end of 2013 there will be 100 Learning Gardens in Chicago.
