The People’s Music School
The People’s Music School provides equitable access to the benefits of high-quality, tuition-free music education. Founded on the belief that engagement in music education is transformative, the school ensures that all students, regardless of socioeconomic status or prior training, can access immersive instruction that fosters musical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Students develop responsibility, self-esteem, resilience, and purpose through rigorous training and vibrant performance opportunities. The school’s innovative curriculum is intentionally designed to foster inclusivity, celebrate cultural representation, and embrace diversity in music instruction.
With four program sites across Chicago, in Uptown, Albany Park, Back of the Yards, and the Greater South Side, The People’s Music School serves more than 800 students each year. All students receive high-quality instruments and supplies, intensive instruction, consistent mentorship from esteemed teaching faculty, and numerous opportunities to perform. Together, these elements create a transformative learning experience that uplifts students and strengthens Chicago communities.
