Joshua S. Friedman is founder, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Canyon Partners LLC, a leading global alternative asset management firm headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Canyon specializes in credit-oriented investments for endowments, foundations, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and other institutional investors. Canyonís hedge fund strategies focus on bank debt, distressed debt, high yield and convertible bonds, direct investments, arbitrage and value equities. The firm employs little or no financial leverage in its hedge funds. Canyon also invests in real estate through Canyon Capital Realty Advisors and the Canyon Johnson Urban Fund.
Mr. Friedman is a graduate of Harvard College (summa cum laude, Physics), Oxford University (Marshall Scholar), Harvard Business School (Baker Scholar) and Harvard Law School (magna cum laude). Mr. Friedman is a trustee of a number of non profit and charitable organizations, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the California Science Center. He was recently honored by the Cedars-Sinai Medical Genetics Institute and, along with his wife, Beth, by UCLA Hospital and by the Independent School Alliance for Minority Affairs. Through their family foundation, Josh and Beth have recently made endowment gifts to Wellesley College’s Madeline Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs, Harvard University (the Friedman Fellowships in Physics), and Sinai Temple, as well as supported a host of other institutions in the fields of education and medicine.
Mr. Friedman lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their 3 sons.
