Michael Elrad co-founded GEM in 1994 with Barry Malkin and Norm Geller. Michael, Barry and Norm continue to be the Senior Managing Partners of GEM Realty Capital and are responsible for formulating GEM’s corporate strategy. GEM Realty Capital is a Chicago-based real estate investment company that manages over $4 billion in assets and invests in private-market and publicly traded real estate through two lines of business, GEM Realty Properties and GEM Realty Securities.
Michael is the Chief Investment Officer of GEM Realty Securities. GEM Realty Securities manages long-short real estate hedge funds that invest in publicly traded real estate securities. GEM’s hedge funds currently manage over $2 billion in assets on behalf of pension funds, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, financial institutions, and private clients.
From 1989 to 1994, Michael represented JMB Realty Corporation in the Loan Restructuring and Capital Markets Group and was named Vice President in 1992. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1989.
Michael is active in Young Presidents’ Organization. He also supports a number of educational scholarships and philanthropic endeavors. Michael resides in Glencoe, IL with his wife and three children.
