Wally Weitz is the founder and president of Weitz Investment Management, Inc. A CFA charterholder, Wally is the portfolio manager of the Weitz Partners III Opportunity Fund and is co-portfolio manager of the Weitz Small/Mid-Cap Value (Hickory Fund), Large-Cap Value (Value Fund) and Multi-Cap Value (Partners Value Fund) strategies. After earning a BA in economics at Carleton College in 1970, Wally spent three years in New York doing security analysis, primarily on the small companies in which G.A. Saxton made over-the-counter markets. In 1973, he moved to Omaha, NE, and joined Chiles, Heider & Co., Inc., a regional brokerage firm. There he spent ten years honing his investment skills through practical application as an analyst and portfolio manager. In 1983, Wally started Weitz Investment Management, Inc. and now heads a group of ten investment professionals.
